Anyone who knows me knows that I love to laugh. I laugh at everything -– sometimes I laugh a little too much.

Just recently, I’ve been feeling a little down at work. Later that day, two of my colleagues came into my office all amped-up to debate whether or not Jack could’ve been saved at the end of the movie Titanic. I listened to them go back and forth in commotion about ways in which Rose could and couldn’t save him. They were hilarious! I sat there listening to them go on and on, while laughing and shaking my head. I immediately felt better — laughter is indeed the best medicine.

On that note, here are my top 10 quotes on laughter:

  1. “A good laugh heals a lot of hurts.” — Madeleine L’Engle
  2. “A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.” — Phyllis Diller
  3. “A well-balanced person is one who finds both sides of an issue laughable.” — Herbert Procknow
  4. “An optimist laughs to forget; a pessimist forgets to laugh.” — Tom Nansbury
  5. “As soap is to the body, so laughter is to the soul.” — A Jewish Proverb
  6. “He who laughs, lasts!”— Mary Pettibone Poole
  7. “Humor is laughing at what you haven’t got when you ought to have it.” — James Langston Hughes
  8. “I have not seen anyone dying of laughter, but I know millions who are dying because they are not laughing.” – Dr. Madan Kataria
  9. “If you don’t learn to laugh at trouble, you won’t have anything to laugh at when you’re old.” — Edgar Watson Howe
  10. “Laughter has no foreign accent.” — Paul Lowney

I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did. What do you think of laughter?

  1. Laughter is really a soothing experience. Plus it’s also contagious. Also, I don’t really believe in “too much laughter”, It’s non-existent.
A great way to lift spirits and cheer up the environment. Love the quotes. They speak truth.
    #keeplaughing

  2. Years ago I was in the hospital for five months for serious surgery. Every day I told the joke to the nurses and doctors who came into see me. I think give me their day a little better and it also helped me keep a good attitude

  3. Well, I really like what I see in your blog! I too have used humor through out my life to help lift my spirit, that and faith in God. I used to tell people, God must have a sense of humor, He created me, didn’t He? 🙂 I’ve cried many tears too and learned that ‘tears’ are also a gift. Refreshing blog…and keep on laughing, it is the ‘best’ medicine out there! God bless…Karen

  4. Like all the quotes especially the 9th one. I believe one who is able to look back and laugh at his troubles has no regrets in life. Laughter definitely heals. Good post Candace!

  5. Laughing is one thing I definitely want to do more , am just too serious sometimes when it’s not even that serious ..laughs …

    Thanks Candace

  6. Life throws a lot of punches at us. We get knocked down. We get back up. One thing I learned about that has always kept me centered: Ultimately, life is fatal. So make the best of it while you can. And find humor wherever you can.
I enjoyed reading your comments about humor and I identified with almost all – when I stop laughing, that’s when I know I’m in trouble. Thanks for reminding me how important humor is.
