Contrary to popular belief, our life is not a product of our circumstances, but rather a product of the choices we make. Every single decision that we made in the past has led us to this point in our lives.

So then, what decisions are we making now to get to where we want to be? Are we wishing for our dreams to become a reality while we wait around hoping for a miracle to happen? Or are we taking action, seizing the day, and taking advantage of the opportunities that come our way?

It is said that a Beggar and a Billionaire both have 24 hours in a day—what they do with those 24 hours determines the outcome of their lives. This analogy represents all aspects of our lives that we want to improve—our physique, our career, our finances, our health, or our relationships. How we use those 24 hours determines whether we will accomplish those things or not.

On that note, here are my top 10 quotes on self-improvement:

Life is like riding a bicycle; to keep your balance you must keep moving. —Albert Einstein

Nothing will work unless you do. —John Wooden

You have to apply yourself each day to becoming a little better. By becoming a little better each and every day, over a period of time, you will become a lot better. —John Wooden

If we only did things that were easy, we wouldn’t actually be learning anything; we’d just be practising things we already knew. —David Dockterman

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. —Wayne Gretzky

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed no hope at all. —Dale Carnegie

Improve by 1% a day, and in just 70 days, you’re twice as good. —Alan Weiss

Vision is not enough. It must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps; we must also step up the stairs. —Vaclac Havel

The very best thing you can do for the whole world is to make the most of yourself. —Wallace Wattles

Things don’t go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be. —Samuel Johnson

  1. Glad you’re back writing. I always enjoy your thoughts. Just finished a great book: Willpower Doesn’t Work, by Benjamin Hardy. It is definitely worth a read and re-read.
    Have a great day!

  2. These are great, Candace! May I offer one of my favorites? “Even if our efforts of attention seem for years to be producing no result, one day a light that is in exact proportion to them will flood the soul.” ~Simone Weil

  3. I like the quote you mentioned “Nothing will work unless you do.” — John Wooden

My Mum always tells me “If it’s something that needs doing for yourself, you have to chase it, no one else will.”

Oh, and welcome back! Good to see you again.

  4. Candace!! Welcome back!! I have really missed reading your posts! I love these quotes! Most of them are similar to things I try to remind myself of on a daily basis.

I hope you’re doing well!! I thought of you on your birthday, and really should have e-mailed you. I hope your birthday was the best one yet! I have been ridiculously busy for the past few months and got away from blogging for a while, but am finally starting to get back to it a little more often now. I will definitely make sure to check back more often to read anything you write. Your posts have always brought a smile to my face. I hope you’re having a great weekend!

    1. Hey Danny!! It is good to be back.

Thanks so much for the kind words about my posts. I hope to also keep with the momentum and write/post often.
My birthday was spent relatively quiet, but it was a good one.
      How have you been?

  5. You’re very welcome!! I will always look forward to reading anything you write. 🙂

My life has become incredibly busy lately. It’s been an eventful past couple of months. An amazing career opportunity that I never thought was an option for me randomly fell into my lap. Other opportunities have also come along that I will be considering in the coming months. I also finally have a busy social life again for the first time in over 3 years. I’ve met some really great people who have changed my life. It’s funny how things like that happen when you least expect it. The best things in life always seem to happen when you aren’t looking for them.

    1. Wowww… those are all really great news! I’m so happy for you. Life certainly is unpredictable–which can go either way. I’m so happy to hear it’s been going great for you. You sound very excited!!
